STRENGTHENING ENGAGEMENT WITH THE VANUA OF SABETO
June 14, 2026The iTaukei Land Trust Board (TLTB), through its Taukei Development Fund Facility (TDFF), continues to support iTaukei entrepreneurs in growing sustainable businesses and creating economic opportunities for their families and communities.
This commitment was demonstrated in Nadi where TLTB Chief Executive Officer Mr. Solomone Nata officially handed over a new 14-seater van to Mr. Meli Liganimeca Kalougata of Mataqali Vagadra, Bavu Village, during a ceremony held at the Asco Motors office.
Mr. Kalougata is the owner and operator of Meli Tours & Transfers (Fiji), a transportation business providing airport transfers, hotel and resort transfers, staff transportation services and other transport solutions within Fiji’s tourism sector.
The business has been operating successfully for the past ten years and was originally established by Mr. Kalougata’s late father. Today, he continues to build on that legacy, driven by a strong belief in the growth potential of Fiji’s tourism industry and a commitment to providing for his family.
Based in Nadi, Fiji’s tourism and aviation hub, Meli Tours & Transfers has established itself as a reliable service provider, operating under valid Land Transport Authority permits and servicing both local and international clients. The business also maintains a working partnership with Denarau Destinations Tours and Transfers Company Limited, further strengthening its operations within the tourism sector.
The acquisition of the new vehicle will significantly enhance the company’s capacity to meet growing demand and provide safe, reliable and quality transportation services to visitors travelling throughout the Nadi and Denarau corridors.
Speaking during the handover, Mr. Nata acknowledged the determination and entrepreneurial spirit demonstrated by Mr. Kalougata in continuing and expanding a family business that contributes to the local economy while creating opportunities within the tourism industry.
The assistance provided through the Taukei Development Fund reflects TLTB’s ongoing efforts to empower iTaukei landowners and entrepreneurs to pursue viable business ventures, strengthen their economic resilience and achieve long-term sustainable growth.
For Mr. Kalougata, the new van represents more than just an addition to his fleet—it is an investment in the future of his business, the continuation of his father’s vision, and another step forward in delivering quality transportation services to Fiji’s growing tourism market.
