Sausauvou – Karua ni Lavelave
August 25, 2025Yesterday, TLTB had the honour of accompanying representatives from the Kerzner Group and BSP Life on an introductory visit to the landowners of Malakati Village, Nacula, Yasawa. This visit marked the beginning of a promising partnership for the proposed One&Only Resort—a world-class development set to elevate Fiji’s tourism landscape.
The delegation included Mr. Juan Aguilar (Head of Global Real Estate) and Mr. Akhil Tanega (VP of Capital & Development) from Kerzner International, who were in Fiji to meet with the Prime Minister, Deputy Prime Ministers, and key stakeholders. BSP Life, as the local partner, is a shareholder in Doubloon Investment Pte Ltd, the company behind this exciting venture.
The Vanua of Bau, led by Turaga na Ratu ni Drola, warmly welcomed the guests with a traditional ceremony. In return, the delegation presented a tabua to seek the blessing of the landowners and express gratitude for their support.
As part of their visit, the team made a generous donation to Ratu Meli Memorial School, supporting local education and infrastructure. The children of Malakati performed a beautiful meke to honour the guests, creating a heartfelt moment of cultural exchange.
The tourism lease covers land from two landowning units—Mataqali Yavusaratu and Mataqali Vunikavika. Landowners expressed their eagerness for the development to begin, especially since the land had been previously leased without any progress.
The project is currently in the design phase, with feasibility studies set to begin in November. Groundwork, including geotechnical assessments, will start in the coming months, followed by the construction of developer quarters later this year or early next year.
Mr. Wane, from Dubai, shared that this is a “One & Only” project unlike any other in the world—one that will put Fiji on the global tourism map.
TLTB is proud to facilitate this historic collaboration and looks forward to the positive impact it will bring to the Vanua, the landowners, and the people of Fiji. Representing TLTB were GM Landowners Empowerment Mr Peni Qalo and Manager Tourism Mr Kaveni Naiduki.
