November 26, 2025The iTaukei Land Trust Board (TLTB), through its Landowners Division, marked an important milestone in landowner development with the rollout of its Landowning Unit (LOU) Workshop for 2025 in the Western Division. Hosted for the first time in the Province of Ra, the workshop brought together around 42 landowners representing 24 landowning units (mataqali) at Vatusekiyasawa Village, Rakiraki, on 28 November under the theme “Landowners Capacity Empowerment for Successful Implementation of Projects.” Amongst those present were LOU’s from Rakiraki, Nalawa and Nakorotubu.
The event was officially opened by the General Manager Landowners Empowerment Division, who emphasised the importance of understanding land potential and making informed decisions around resource utilisation. “Strong landowners create strong generations,” he noted, highlighting the need for economic stability and clear planning within every LOU.
Mr Peni Qalo said this workshop forms part of TLTB’s broader commitment to helping landowners translate opportunities into long-term prosperity by equipping them with essential knowledge, strategic partnerships, and practical development tools.
A key highlight of the workshop was the official handover of 12 Asset Capitalization Reports by the Mr Qalo, signaling a major milestone in supporting LOU development initiatives.
These reports provide critical insights into leveraging land assets for sustainable economic growth for itaukei landowner groups or landowning units – tokatoka/mataqali/yavusa.
The program featured inspiring presentations from representatives of successful businesses and thriving LOUs, who shared practical strategies, lessons learned, and alternative
pathways to ensure development projects are implemented effectively and benefits reach every family within the LOU.
Participants also viewed compelling videos from the Mataqali Etuba of Sigatoka, showcasing the economic and social advantages of the Taukei Wealth Fund for landowning units.
Feedback from attendees was overwhelmingly positive, with many expressing appreciation for the workshop as a valuable platform for learning, sharing experiences, and exploring
innovative approaches to economic development.
The event reinforced TLTB’s commitment to empowering landowners and aligning initiatives with the Board’s strategic vision for sustainable growth.
