November 19, 2025Mataqali Naleya of Wainimakutu Village in Namosi has received a significant boost to its agricultural ambitions, with the iTaukei Land Trust Board (TLTB) presenting more than $157,000 under the Taukei Development Fund Facility (TDFF). The official handover was conducted yesterday by TLTB Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Solomone Nata.
The funding aims to empower landowners by supporting sustainable farming projects. Of the 31 farmers who applied for assistance, 26 have been granted a 50-year Agreement for Lease offers. The allocated land parcels range from 3 acres to 49 acres, with individual funding amounts between $4,300 and $7,000.
In an emotional address, Turaga ni Yavusa Ratu Alipate Raitini expressed his deep gratitude, noting that the community had struggled for seven long years to start its farming plans because they did not have the capital. Now it has come to their doorstep.
Ratu Alipate Raitini reminded the LOU members of Naleya that the land given to them for lease is an opportunity to help their families and community prosper. He encouraged everyone to work together with unity and purpose.
He also thanked the CEO for visiting, for the assistance provided, and for the great leadership shown in supporting their development plans.
The initiative covers all associated costs, including lease payments, equipment procurement, seedlings, land preparation, and labour expenses. Farmers will also receive essential tools and seedlings to ensure they are fully equipped to begin operations.
Mr. Nata emphasized that the program is designed to unlock economic potential for landowners and foster long-term development in rural communities such as Namosi which has proved the effectiveness of the sub-office service at Dada, Namosi.
