
CALL FOR MORE COLLABORATION ON LAND ISSUES
January 30, 2026The iTaukei Land Trust Board (TLTB) confirms that after a series of consultations the landowners of the Nasarava Water Catchment (Mataqali Nabukarabe, Nakama Village) in Labasa; the landowners have formally accepted the terms of the lease offer.
Responding to recent media reports suggesting insufficient consultation with Mataqali Nabukarabe, CEO Mr. Solomone Nata said that there have been several consultation meetings with the landowners, Ministry of Lands and Water Authority of Fiji (WAF) to agree on the lease and its conditions.
“TLTB’s priority is to ensure that such agreements deliver sustainable benefits to landowners while also supporting Fiji’s broader development objectives,” he added.
The latest consultation was on 28th January 2026 when Mr. Nata convened a joint meeting with WAF and the Trustees of Mataqali Nabukarabe.
At the conclusion of the discussion, the Trustees of Mataqali expressed their satisfaction with the revised lease offer, together with specific conditions to be included in a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA).
Mr Nata added that the Board remains committed to conducting all lease arrangements with transparency, fairness, and integrity.
