NEW TRACTOR ALLOWS FARMING EFFICIENCY FOR DUAIRA TRUST IN TAVUA

The iTaukei Land Trust Board (TLTB), through its Taukei Development Fund Facility (TDFF), has provided financial support to the Duaira Trust of Mataqali Duaira, one of the landowning units of Nabuna Village, in Tavua.

The $61,000 funding allows Duaira Trust to purchase a brand new tractor, significantly modernizing their farming operations.

Mataqali trepresentatives Mr Sainivalati Nasau said this investment has streamlined land preparation and other essential farming tasks, leading to greater efficiency and long-term sustainability for the landowning unit.

“To date, the mataqali has successfully cultivated up to four acres of land out of the 198 that they have using the new machinery, supporting both sugarcane farming and the cultivation of watermelon. This dual-crop approach marks a strategic move toward diversification and enhanced land productivity,” he added.

The tractor has reduced their reliance on external contractors and empowered the trust to manage operations independently.

This initiative underscores TLTB’s continued commitment to empowering iTaukei landowners through financial assistance and sustainable development programs. Through the TDFF scheme, TLTB is encouraging landowning units like Mataqali Duaira to actively engage in productive land use that fosters economic growth.
