The iTaukei Land Trust Board (TLTB) has secured court orders to disconnect water and electricity meters for 35 tenants who have failed to settle their rent arrears.
CEO, Mr. Solomone Nata, reaffirmed the Board’s commitment to ensuring that iTaukei landowners receive their rightful lease payments by holding non-compliant tenants accountable.
“As of 28th February 2025, we have 248 cases currently before the courts, with 163 more in the process of having writs of summons filed. Additionally, eight (have already received court orders to vacate their properties,” Mr. Nata said.
He further emphasized that TLTB have intensified actions against rent arrears and is engaging with tenants who have opted for structured part-payment plans to clear their arrears and avoid legal action. The Board is also reviewing re-entry options for tenants who have vacated their leased land or have been evading TLTB officers.
TLTB is urging all tenants with outstanding payments to settle their dues immediately to avoid legal consequences, including disconnection of essential services and eviction.
“We are giving tenants a final opportunity to comply. Landowners deserve fair compensation for the use of their land, and TLTB will take all necessary steps to ensure rent obligations are met,” Mr. Nata added.
