TLTB Signs MOU with Registra of Titles (ROT)
iTaukei Land Trust Board (TLTB) signed a Memorandum Of Understanding (MOU) with Registrar of Titles (ROT) on Tuesday the 5th of December at the TLTB Boardroom in Suva.
The MOU only formally consolidates the cooperative and favourable affiliation between the two (2) parties and not overbearing each other’s statutory roles and obligations to their various stakeholders
On the other hand, the MOU promotes the interests of both organisations with alignment to the iTaukei Land Trust Act 1940, iTaukei Lands Act 1905, Property Law Act 1971, Land Transfer Act 1971and other related legislations in line with the Torrens system of ownership by way of registration.
Interim CEO, Mr Solomoni Nata confirmed that, “with the MOU in place, the Board hopes to ensure the effective implementation and realization of the constitutional legislative provisions relating to ownership of iTaukei land, leasing of iTaukei land and cancellation of those leases”.
He added, “TLTB will consult with ROT whenever necessary with regards to the process of granting leases and licenses, dealings, registration and cancellation of leases. For ease of doing business, the two parties will also discuss digitizing processes, that are within the law”.
In the same manner, the parties have agreed to share and exchange ideas and information for better fulfillment of their respective statutory roles and also to collaborate on important land issues affecting the registration of leases in Fiji.
The MOU automatically came into effect after it was signed on Tuesday – 05th December, 2023.
Representing the Board in the signing of the document were Interim CEO and Board Secretary Mr Salimoni Karusi while ROT was represented by Solicitor General Mr Ropate Green and Ms Sovaia Liku.
