• TLTB represented at all courts and before other tribunals in all legal matters involving TLTB
• Litigation and other disputes involving TLTB managed from inception to conclusion, including matter intake, collecting evidence, internal and external communication, pleading preparation and review, discovery management, witness briefing and preparation, conduct of trial/hearing, settlement and other case management obligations
• All court documentation and correspondence in litigation files managed and maintained and regular and accurate updating of litigation files ensured.
• Collaboration with management to devise efficient defense strategies
• Case deadlines monitored and work with Legal Officer and Litigation Assistant to ensure court filing deadlines are entered and met
• Correspond and communicate with courts, tenants, witnesses, opposing counsel regarding hearings, trials and various meetings
• Legal Officer and Litigation Assistant supervised in the collection of lease rental arrears
• Specialist legal and procedural advice provided to ensure that TLTB acts within its statutory and regulatory obligations
• In consultation with Manager Legal, provide strategic legal advice and support to TLTB’s management team on a broad range of issues, including but not limited to corporate governance, regulatory compliance, commercial contracts and litigation
• Complex, contentious, or sensitive cases, reviews, research and other legal and administrative activities managed and advice on new and emerging issues in the relevant area of law and their longer-term implications for TLTB provided.
• Drafting and reviewing contracts, leases and other legal documents to ensure they are legally binding and accurately reflect business objectives ensuring that the organization’s interests are protected
• Manager Legal assisted in monitoring the execution of the work program of the Manager Legal and Legal Department, delivery of high-quality work is ensured and time frames for legal advice and services are met
• In consultation with Manager Legal, contribute to the design and development of practice strategy, plans and programs, including allocating and monitoring work, providing efficient and effective legal advice and services and ensure optimal delivery of operational priorities
• In consultation with the Manager Legal, review systems and procedures and recommend or devise strategies/ mechanisms to improve the effectiveness of legal services delivery
• Development of internal guidelines, policies, procedures to ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations assisted.
• Internal departments and management on legal implications of internal policies, guidelines, procedures and manuals reviewed and advised.
• Cultivate and maintain professional relationships with legal fraternity and the courts
• Correspond and work effectively with specialist/external legal counsel if cases are outsourced for advice or litigation in consultation with Manager Legal
• Updates of all court appearances and attendances on the day of attending court communicated and provided.
• As and when required, provide briefs to Senior Management and Executive Management on issues or of cases being handled
• Monthly reports for the department for Senior Management meetings prepared.

• Degree in Law.  8 years’ experience in the practice of Law in Fiji or similar jurisdiction. Must have a valid practicing certificate.

• Grade 8 of the TLTB salary scale on a three-year contract.
