STRATEGIC PLANNING AND ASSET CAPITALISATION WORKSHOP FOR TAILEVU NORTH LANDOWNERS
October 30, 2026The iTaukei Land Trust Board (TLTB) has reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the interests of iTaukei landowners through the continued enforcement of lease agreements and recovery of outstanding lease arrears.
CEO Mr Solomone Nata said TLTB has successfully obtained writs of possession from the courts for four residential lease properties following legal action against lessees who failed to meet their lease obligations. The court orders pertain to residential lease properties located in Waiyavi and Vunakeilo in the Western Division.
The four cases involve accumulated lease arrears amounting to approximately $25,014 and have now progressed through the legal process, resulting in the court granting writs of possession. The execution of these court orders will be carried out by a court-appointed bailiff in accordance with all legal requirements.
Mr Nata said the action highlights the Board’s responsibility to ensure that itaukei land tenants honour their contractual obligations and that lease revenue owed to landowners is collected.
“Rental income generated from iTaukei land directly benefits landowning units and supports the economic wellbeing of thousands of landowners throughout Fiji. While TLTB always seeks to work with tenants to resolve arrears through dialogue and payment arrangements, there comes a point where legal enforcement is necessary when lease obligations continue to be disregarded.”
Mr. Nata said lease compliance remains a key priority of the Board and forms part of TLTB’s broader efforts to improve revenue collection and strengthen accountability across its lease portfolio.
“These court outcomes send a clear message that lease agreements must be respected. TLTB is committed to ensuring fairness to compliant tenants while also upholding its duty to protect the rights and interests of landowners,” he added.
The Board will continue to encourage tenants experiencing financial difficulties to engage early with TLTB offices to discuss possible solutions before matters escalate to legal proceedings.
TLTB has strengthened its arrears management and recovery processes across all regions and will continue working with tenants, landowners and stakeholders to ensure the sustainable administration of iTaukei land throughout Fiji.
