The iTaukei Land Trust Board (TLTB) has successfully completed a two-week Northern Region engagement program from 17–28 August 2026, reaching 26 Landowning Units (LOUs) across the provinces of, Cakaudrove, Bua and Macuata through financial literacy training, land use planning awareness, project monitoring and community consultations.
The tour was led by Manager Landowner Empowerment Mr Pio Raitoni and Manager Trust Mr Livai Tuvola aimed to strengthen collaboration with landowners and TLTB officers.
The program also provided an opportunity to directly engage with trustees, development committees and mataqali members to improve governance, financial management and long-term planning of landowner resources.
Mr Raitoni said the team conducted a combination of financial literacy workshops, project monitoring visits, land use planning consultations and community awareness sessions.
Financial literacy training remained a key focus of the tour, equipping landowners with practical knowledge on budgeting, saving, investment decisions and managing trust account funds. Many participating landowners acknowledged the value of the training and expressed greater confidence in managing their financial resources and future development projects.
Several landowning units used the opportunity to discuss existing projects and future development aspirations.
In Yaroi, Cakaudrove, project monitoring was undertaken with members of the Yavusa Yaroi, including Mataqali Nakadamau, Bau, Rara, Vuniyasawa and Daku.
Community members received updates on their development initiatives and sought guidance on progressing future projects, including requests for additional land use planning training.
In Korowiri, Macuata, Mataqali Wasavulu and Mataqali Raranimeke discussed plans to pursue agricultural and commercial ventures through support from the Taukei Development Fund Facility (TDFF).
TLTB officers provided guidance on business planning requirements and funding application processes.
At Vunivutu Village, project monitoring and financial literacy sessions were conducted with Mataqali Boutolu and Mataqali Nautodamu, while consultations with Yavusa Wainikoro focused on project implementation and future development opportunities.
Several landowning units also expressed interest in pursuing commercial, agricultural and residential developments on their customary land, underscoring the need for continued technical support and development planning.
Land use planning remained a major component of the engagement program, with awareness and training sessions undertaken in communities across Macuata and Bua.
In Namoli Village, the team completed land inspections and facilitated the drafting of land use plans, development plans and community profiles for Mataqali Namolicake. Similar planning exercises were carried out with Mataqali Naviura, Mataqali Muanicula and Mataqali Navucivuci, enabling landowners to identify suitable areas for future development while ensuring sustainable use of their resources.
The planning consultations also assisted landowners in identifying development priorities and potential income-generating opportunities linked to agriculture, commercial ventures and residential developments.
The team assisted several landowning units in preparing applications for support through the TDFF, including funding requests for:
• Agricultural tractors
• Commercial development projects
• Business vehicles
• Farm development initiatives
Applications are expected to be submitted between September and October 2026.
