PM RABUKA OFFICIATES AT GROUNDBREAKING CEREMONY OF THE NEW CARRIAGE SAWMILL PROJECT IN LAUTOKA

The ceremony was officiated by the Prime Minister Hon. Sitiveni Rabuka, who highlighted the importance of value-added timber processing, sustainable forestry development, employment creation, and increasing returns from Fiji’s forest resources. The new carriage sawmill project is expected to significantly enhance timber processing capacity, strengthen local industry, and generate greater economic benefits for landowners and the nation.

Mr Rabuka also acknowledged the importance of partnerships and the support provided by TLTB in enabling strategic investments that create employment opportunities and improve economic outcomes for iTaukei landowners.

In the introductory remarks, Executive Chairman of Fiji Pine Group, Ratu Rakuita Vakalalabure, warmly acknowledged and thanked the iTaukei Land Trust Board and CEO Mr. Solomoni Nata for their continued support to the forestry industry and to landowners throughout Fiji. He reflected on the long-standing partnership between Fiji Pine, TLTB, and the landowners, and cited the recent renewal of the Fiji Pine lease in Drasa as an example of the strong collaboration that continues to create opportunities and benefits for present and future generations. This acknowledgement recognized the important role TLTB has played over the years in facilitating sustainable development on iTaukei land and ensuring that landowners remain connected to the growth of the forestry sector.

TLTB’s presence at this important milestone reaffirms our commitment to working alongside landowners, industry stakeholders, and Government to advance sustainable development and ensure that the benefits derived from iTaukei land continue to uplift our people, communities, and future generations.
