CEO Mr. Solomone Nata, recently led an engagement visit to Malolo where he met with Na Momo na Tui Lawa, Ratu Iliesa Ratunavu Neitauniyalo, and members of Mataqali Ketenamasi of Yaro Village.
The visit focused on reviewing the Mataqali’s current investment portfolio, identifying opportunities to leverage existing investments for sustainable landowner development initiatives, and providing guidance on TLTB’s financial assistance programs and business empowerment opportunities aimed at strengthening landowner participation in business and economic development.
While speaking to the mataqali, Mr Nata reminded them that TLTB was established to safeguard and advance the interests of the iTaukei people and is now strategically focused on empowering landowners to become successful entrepreneurs. Through the iTaukei Development Fund Facility (TDFF), TLTB has already assisted in establishing around 200 landowner-owned businesses, with access to loans based on viable business plans and suitable security.
He emphasized that TLTB has strengthened this commitment through the creation of the Landowner Empowerment Division, which supports business development, training, profiling, and entrepreneurship. Looking ahead, TLTB aims to further expand economic opportunities for landowners, including plans for an iTaukei Bank, while encouraging greater participation in sectors such as agriculture, tourism, and transportation to improve the socio-economic well-being of the iTaukei people.
Moving forward Mataqali Ketenamasi will now have to:
• engage with Fijian Holdings Limited (FHL) to obtain clarification on the current status, valuation, and performance of their investment portfolio.
• submit a project proposal/business plan to TLTB outlining the proposed development projects, estimated costs, funding requirements, expected benefits, and socioeconomic impact on the members of the Mataqali and the Vanua of Lawa.
TLTB will continue to provide advisory and technical support where necessary to assist the Mataqali in evaluating viable business options through the TDFF and also engaging with the Mataqali to enhance entrepreneurship, investment management, and sustainable utilization of land and financial resources.
