DIRECT ENGAGEMENT PROVIDES A CLEAR WAY FORWARD FOR MATAQALI KETENAMASI

The iTaukei Land Trust Board (TLTB), through its Taukei Development Fund Facility (TDFF), has approved a loan of $90,000 to support the construction of two guest bures at Nanumi Au Eco Village, a locally owned and community-based eco-tourism venture in Ra.
CEO Mr. Solomone Nata, officially handed over the loan agreement to Nanumi Au Eco Village Director, Mr. Kolinio Qarau Samuta, yesterday. Mr. Samuta is a member of Mataqali Natilivaira, Yavusa Natiliva, of Navutulevu Village, Rakiraki, Ra.
Mr Nata was very thankful to Mr Samuta for taking up this business opportunity in Ra.
“This is one of the less common business ventures undertaken by iTaukei entrepreneurs, and I commend Mr Samuta for demonstrating the immense potential that exists within the eco-tourism sector. Your initiative serves as an excellent example of how indigenous communities can sustainably utilize their resources to create economic opportunities while preserving their cultural and environmental heritage, “ he added.
Located in Navutulevu Village, Rakiraki, on land formerly used for sugar cane farming, Nanumi Au Eco Village has transformed the site into a sustainable tourism destination that showcases authentic Fijian culture while promoting environmental stewardship and community development.
The name “Nanumi Au,” meaning “Remember Me,” reflects the enterprise’s vision of creating memorable and authentic cultural experiences for visitors while contributing to sustainable economic development within the local community.
Committed to environmentally responsible practices, Nanumi Au Eco Village operates largely on solar energy, reducing its reliance on conventional energy sources and reinforcing its dedication to sustainable tourism.
